Intriguing Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Quotes

sir arthur conan doyle

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, is arguably one of my favourite authors. He is responsible for what is now the Sherlock Holmes franchise, as well as many other literary works. Throughout his books and his characters, he has written numerous quotes, here are a few I find particularly interesting:

-“There are always some lunatics about. It would be a dull world without them.”-

-“Mediocrity knows nothing higher than itself, but talent instantly recognizes genius.”-

-“His ignorance was as remarkable as his knowledge.”-

-“Any truth is better than indefinite doubt.”-

-“For strange effects and extraordinary combinations we must go to life itself, which is always far more daring than any effort of the imagination.”-

-“There is nothing more deceptive than an obvious fact.”-

-“It has long been an axiom of mine that the little things are infinitely the most important.”-

J.R.R. Tolkien was a great writer, and he had wise words of his own to go with it all. Let me share some of my favourite quotes:

-“Not all who wander are lost.”-

-“If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.”-

-“Faithless is he that says farewell when the road darkens.”-

-“It’s the job that’s never started as takes longest to finish.”-

-“All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”-

-“A friend of mine tells that I talk in shorthand and then smudge it.”-

-“The wide world is all about you: you can fence yourselves in, but you cannot forever fence it out.”-

-“A pen is to me as a beak is to a hen.”-

And my overall favourite:

-“I don’t like allegories.”- (All wise words from J.R.R. Tolkien.)
